Players were started off with an image with some text mentioning two steps.
Adjusting the image brightness shows step three, which is to turn on sub captions and complete the sentence for the key.
On March 14th, MatPat hosted a GTLive where they streamed Cartonfall. Periodically during the stream, Jason would change the book order on the back shelf with different configurations of black and white books. There were always 8 books on the shelf. Taking note of the orders, this turned out to be binary, which translated to "oct915".
Below is a list of all the timestamps the books were changed:
00:00 - BWWBWWWW
09:00 - BWWBBBWW
20:00 - BWWWBWBB
30:00 - BBWWWBBW
40:00 - BBWWBBBW
50:00 - BBWWBWBW
Going to the GTLive channel for videos uploaded on October 9th 2015, players can find this FNAF video being published on that date.
For the second step, a week after this stream (a fortnight is 14 days, so half is 7 days) on March 21st 2019, MatPat hosted a GTeaLive on the channel about Google Stadia. In the background, letters and numbers can be seen in place of the normal molecule.
Taking all the letters and putting them in order based on the numbers next to them gave a bit.ly link: bit.ly/LLAMADRAMAGTL.
The bit.ly link is case-sensitive and must be in all caps. If the player tries bit.ly/llamadramagtl, they are redirected to an image that tells them to look at the orange book. This orange book can be seen on the right bookshelf, with the title being "ALL CAPS" and clarifying lettercase.
Going to the correct bit.ly link gives a timestamp.
Using the date (October 9, 2015) and timestamp, players can go to the video, turn on subtitles, and see the complete version of the sentence with the key of fine ass.
This key starts off with a gif containing drama llama, youtube thumbnails and the beginning to a unturnnostone link. The rest of this link is what the green text on the blurred out thumbnail says.
Going to the GTLive channel, all of these videos are in consecutive order, meaning the blurred thumbnail is this Haunted House video.
Going by what's said in the thumbnail, this gives the link unturnnostone.com/saveme! (also spoken by the llama in the upper-right corner), which leads to a simple maze.
The maze is solved by steps to get to the end of the puzzle to complete the URL. In each room, an alien glyph could be found.
Going through the maze gives the alien glyphs to translate to "h3ll0", and finishes the link, unturnnostone.com/h3ll0 (here's where the glyphs are).
The link takes players to a papercraft named "page01.png".
Downloading this image and opening it in a text editor program gives the following text below, as well as ASCII art of a llama.
HELLO theorist! i'm so glad we're doing this together. i feel so much safer battling through dark dungeons with a NEIGHBOR than alone, especially in this CRUEL COLD WORLD we live in. but buckle up, we've only just begun. an ARROW will reveal the code to unlock this key...
Taking the capitalized words (hinted at from the last phrase of "the clue is in the caps") leads players to the Hello Neighbor Livestream with the words Cruel Cold World in the thumbnail.
Watching the video and looking at the arrow shaped chalkboard (as hinted from the text editor text), the answer for this key is found to be "38212".
This key started off with the drama llama and part of an unturnnostone link, as well as an audio file.
The audio is the sound of a printer running. Viewing the spectrogram of the audio revealed an image of a printer and a question asking what kind of printer it is.
A quick google search revealed that this is a dot matrix printer, and creates the link unturnnostone.com/dotmatrix.
The link leads to a two layer maze.
Solving the maze in the same style as the first maze and translating the alien glyphs in the rooms used gives the link bit.ly/g3ta9r1nt3r (here's where the glyphs are).
The link takes players to a papercraft named "page02.png".
Downloading this image and opening in a text editor gave the following text below, as well as what appears to be ASCII art of a nugget.
on a wonderful spring day, matpat ate something. tHis dElicious treat is your key to the eXit.
The text has the letters "H E X" capitalized, and combing though the text emoticon nugget reveals some hexadecimal characters. "6D 61 79 20 37 20 32 30 31 37 20 35 35 3A 35 35" translates to "may 7 2017 55:55".
On May 7th, 2017, MatPat streamed Part 1 of the game Kindergarten. At 55:55 in the stream, MatPat receives a nugget and eats it in the game, making the answer for this key "nugget".
Another picture of the drama llama and an incomplete unturnnostone link is found. There is also Julius Caesar and the number 25 written on an arrow chalkboard.
Changing the brightness and contrast on the image, alien glyphs are found.
Going to the video referenced by the glyphs, Teach Us Teen Slang! | Emoji Challenge, an arrow can be seen in the background with ciphertext.
When encoded with a Caesar shift of 25, this decodes to "bye, felicia". This completes the link unturnnostone.com/bye,felicia.
Omitting the comma from the link (unturnnostone.com/byefelicia) takes players to a link that hints at the forgotten comma. The yellow question mark in the original unfinished link also hints at the presence of a comma.
The link leads to a four layer maze.
Solving the maze in exactly 34 steps as indicated and translating the alien glyphs in the rooms used gives the string 3RLFFORETNECEHTTAEULAVDEXEHEHTDNIF (here's where the glyphs are).
The maze at one point has an error. From step 24 to 25, players must go down from the purple staircase (third column, second row) to the green staircase (third column, second row). However, there is no staircase that leads from the upper floor on the green map. Pretend that that the step 25 square has a staircase leading up and it will be fixed.
Reversing this string tells players to "find the hexed value at the center of flr. 3". Doing so using an eyedropper tool shows that the green has the hex code of #bada55. Also seen around the center circle are more alien glyphs.
Combining these two findings leads to the next link unturnnostone.com/bada55.
The link takes players to a papercraft named "page03.png".
Downloading this image and opening it in a text editor gives the following text below, as well as a string of Base64.
In his teens, Matt's enthusiasm for learning about a historic explorer was killed by a meanie.
>> WHO WAS THIS EXPLORER? <<
Begin at the base, eight to the second power.
ClNlYXJjaCB0aGUgc3RyZWFtcyBmb3IgInRoZSBncmFkZSIgdGhhdCBzaGFyZXMgdGhlIHNhbWUgdG90YWwgbnVtYmVyIG9mIEdhdGVzIGluIFRlbnJldG5pIE9sbGVoLiBJdHMgdGl0bGUgY29udGFpbnMgdGhlIGRhcmtlc3Qgb2YgZHJlYW1zLiBCZWdpbiB3aGVyZSBmb3VyIHR3bydzIGFwcGVhciBzaWRlIGJ5IHNpZGUgYmVmb3JlIHRoZSBzbGFzaC4gTGlzdGVuIGludGVudGx5IGZvciBleGFjdGx5IDMwIHNlY29uZHMsIGFuZCB5b3VyIGtleSBzaGFsbCBiZSByZXZlYWxlZC4=
Translating the Base64 (eight to the second power) gives the following message:
Search the streams for "the grade" that shares the same total number of Gates in Tenretni Olleh. Its title contains the darkest of dreams. Begin where four two's appear side by side before the slash. Listen intently for exactly 30 seconds, and your key shall be revealed.
Knowing there is seven gates in Tenretni Olleh, it involves seventh grade. Darkest of dreams usually refer to nightmares. Searching through the GTLive database, this video is the reference because of "Your 7th Grade NIGHTMARE!" being in the title. Beginning at 22:22 (four two's side by side) and listening for thirty seconds, MatPat vents about getting points off for going "above and beyond" on an old assignment about Sir Francis Drake.
There are two ways of solving this final key, with the difference being if players have a printer and tools ready to go. Both methods will be explained here.
Method 1: With Printer
The final key starts with a gif assembling the papercraft.
Players can print out the 3 pages of the papercraft, follow the instructions, and build the whole papercraft. Doing so will reveal the final key around the trophy. The alien glyphs translate to BL6M3 J450N (BL6M3 on one side of papercraft, J450N on other side).
Method 2: Without Printer
Alternatively, if the player can't work with (or doesn't have) a printer, they can open the gif in a text editor and view the appended data of the file, which has ASCII art of a llama and the link www.unturnnostone.com/noprinternopapernoproblem.
When downloaded, the zip file can be viewed.
FIRST ZIP
This zip file contains another zip file, an instructions text, and the following png mask:
INSTRUCTIONS.
We've given you a PNG file with holes in it. 1. Find the correct video. 2. Go to the time shown. 3. Take a full-screen screenshot in up to 1920x1080 resolution. 4. Open up your screenshot in www.Photopea.com 5. Select FILE --> OPEN AND PLACE 6. Select your .PNG file. This will place it on a new layer above your screenshot. Scale it to fit if necessary. 7. Make sure your overlay lines up perfectly. 8. Read the revealed digits from left to right, top to bottom. 9. Give yourself a clap and a half on the back, because you now have the key to unlock your next zip file. 10. Stop reading this, you got work to do.
As the instructions state, finding the video will give the password to the second zip file. The video can be found by converting the filename of the png mask from hexadecimal.
74726170706564696E61686F72726F7273746F727973746F72696573756E746F6C64 translates to "trappedinahorrorstorystoriesuntold", telling the player to go to the video titled "Trapped in a HORROR STORY! | Stories Untold". Lining the mask up with the timestamp shown (28:43) and following the instructions, the password for the second zip file is "llamagetyouakey".
SECOND ZIP
The second zip contains a third zip, a pdf about Julius Caesar, and a new png mask:
The video being referenced can be traced back with the filename of the png mask. Seeing what videos were published on 07/30/2018, "Back to Jolly's PAST?!" comes up. Lining the mask up with the timestamp shown (7:53) and following the instructions, a binary string and some letters are shown.
The binary in the black rectangle (using the g=1 and b=0 hint) decodes to "shift17". Taking the letters in the blocks and shifting them all using a Caesar cipher shift of 17 shows that the password for the third zip is "lazyclueftw".
THIRD ZIP
The third zip drive contains a pdf with clues to a specific video, another zip file, and another png mask:
This video, when putting together the images into words, is "World's LARGEST Minecraft Selfie". Lining the mask up with the timestamp shown (7:53) and following the instructions, the leftover letters gives a movie (The Last Jedi) and a character from the movie (Rose Tico).
As the filename of the mask is "namethisactress", the key to the next zip file is the name of the actress who plays Rose Tico in the movie. A quick Google search shows that the password to the zip is "kellymarietran".
FOURTH ZIP
This zip contains another zip folder and two images. One image from Drama Llama tells players to return to this GTLive video at the timestamp 20:22 with the png mask.
The scene shows MatPat and Steph doing a clap and a half, which makes the password to the final zip "clapandahalf".
FIFTH ZIP
A final image of the drama llama is presented with instructions on how to piece together the QR code bits from each of the png masks.
Doing so reveals the whole QR code.
When scanned, it leads to this sketchfab file, which is a complete model of the papercraft trophy. Moving the file around and decoding the alien glyphs gives the answer to the final key: "BL6M3 J450N".
